What’s it like to live in the woods with the love of your life? Where to begin, it makes me think about our morning ritual that sets the tone of our entire day. As soon as the sun sets we put on our robes and slippers to step outdoors to our forest garden. The scent of the woods, the calmness of watching the morning breeze together, a calm wind slowly moving through the pine trees that surround our house. An arm over my shoulder while sipping my morning coffee. It’s the smallest things that turned out to be the biggest most extraordinary events, the most cherished.
When we met almost 6 years ago it was love at first sight, after spending 8 hours in the park drinking wine and having endless chats I biked home while singing out loud. I remember stopping myself and thinking: am I really singing out loud in the middle of the street? It was like something took over me. He texted me a couple of hours later:”I can’t wait to see you again.” We booked a flight to New York on our second date and when we came back he asked me to move in together. Looking back it might seem rushed, I admit, but we didn’t doubt it a single second. We were living in our own world from the moment we met, nothing mattered, as long as we were together.
A few years later we visited New York again, the city that had brought us together. But this time it was to make a new special memory, he designed a napkin with the big question. We went out for dinner and when I looked over at the table I saw the words embroidered, will you marry me?
Now 5 years later, we are truly building a world that is our own vision. The real luxuries in life are slow mornings, building a home that feels like a nest, working with our hands to maintain the lush forest that is now our backyard, the love for each other that grows fonder and the little heirlooms that mark these special moments together.
