What is a push present?
A push present is a beautiful tradition — a mother receives a special piece of jewellery, from her partner or chosen for herself, as a symbol of the months she carried her baby with such love. A push present is often given by a partner and can be something a mother simply chooses for herself. Gifts like a locket engraved with their baby’s name and date of birth, with a space inside for a photograph or a lock of hair. The jewellery holds the bond between mother and child — something she can carry with her, every day, for the rest of her life. And even pass on later to the generations that follow.
The origins of a push present
The tradition of honouring a mother with a meaningful gift after the birth of her child is an old one, expressed in different ways across cultures. It is a way of marking how extraordinary the journey of pregnancy and birth truly is —as momentous occasion worth celebrating. A partner may give a piece of jewellery as a gesture of deep gratitude; or a mother may simply want something of her own that symbolises the precious moment.
Why a push present is such a meaningful gift
One of our colleagues at Blush Jewels was part of bringing our locket to life — helping to develop it and photograph it with such care. After becoming a mother herself to a little girl, she had it engraved with her daughter’s name and date of birth. She shares:
