Necklace Extensions

You use a necklace extension when you notice that a necklace sits just a little too short. For example, with a higher neckline, when layering multiple necklaces, or when you want more room around your neck. It can also be useful when you want a necklace to work with a specific outfit. It gives you more flexibility in how you wear your necklace and is therefore a very versatile item to have in your jewellery collection.

You attach the extension to the clasp of your necklace by hooking the lobster clasp of the necklace onto the ring of the extension. You then use the clasp of the extension itself to fasten the necklace around your neck. Within a few seconds your necklace is sitting just a little longer.

In our collection you'll find extensions of 3 cm and 8 cm. This provides enough extra length to make a necklace sit differently without it becoming too long. For many necklaces, one of these two options is exactly the difference needed to wear it comfortably. It's a subtle adjustment with a visible effect.

Our necklace extensions are made from 14 karat gold. This means they match our necklaces well in both colour and finish. You'll barely notice any difference between the original necklace and the extension. This creates a look that appears neat and consistent. You can also choose from different gold colours to better match your white gold necklace or yellow gold necklace.

Most extensions fit necklaces with a standard lobster clasp. It is important that the clasp and ring of your necklace connect properly with the extension. With very fine or particularly thicker necklaces, the fit may vary slightly. We therefore advise checking this before combining them.

Yes, when the extension is properly attached, the necklace stays firmly in place. The clasps are designed to connect well with one another and not come undone easily. The extra piece of chain moves with the necklace, so wearing comfort is maintained. You'll barely notice you're using an extension at all.

The extension sits at the back of your neck and is usually not visible during wear. Only when you put your hair up or wear an open back might the piece of chain be visible. Since it is made from the same material as your necklace, it doesn't stand out noticeably. It remains a subtle addition.

It is technically possible to combine multiple extensions, but we generally don't recommend it. The necklace can then become less stable and sit differently than intended. One extension of 3 cm or 8 cm is usually sufficient to achieve the desired effect. This keeps wearing comfort at its best.
